KBR Building Group Named a N.C. "Building Star" for Distinguished Safety Program
August 10, 2012

KBR Building Group’s commitment to safety is recognized far beyond the walls of our company — most recently evidenced by our designation as a “Building Star” company by the North Carolina Department of Labor.  As a result, we can now proudly display the N.C. Building Star banner on future KBR Building Group project sites in North Carolina.

The prestigious Star distinction (Safety Through Achievement and Recognition) was formally recognized by N.C. Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry during an exclusive ceremony last month at the Croasdaile Country Club in Durham, North Carolina. "The Building Star recognition is a remarkable acknowledgement in our journey to eliminating all project incidents and signifies the overwhelming commitment of our people to the health and well being of all,” said Mike Pierle, Executive Vice President, KBR Building Group.

KBR Building Group's multiple projects for Duke University Medical Center —  including the recently completed Duke Cancer Center and the adjacent Duke Medicine Pavilion, a major expansion of Duke University Hospital currently under construction —  served as the flagship for the N.C. Building Star award.

About the N.C. Building Star Program — Administered by the N.C. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) division, Star (Safety Through Achievement and Recognition) is designed to recognize and promote effective safety and health management systems. Through Star, management, labor and OSH establish a cooperative relationship at a workplace that has implemented a strong program that meets stringent criteria.
