KBR Building Group Promotes Safety Awareness, Celebrates Topping Out of Office Facility (Bldg. 735), at DuPont's Chestnut Run Campus in Wilmington, Delaware
March 15, 2012

Construction workers recently raised the final beam of DuPont’s Building 735 at Chestnut Run Plaza — the second phase of a multi-phase planned expansion at the company’s suburban campus in Wilmington, Delaware. After raising the beam, Bob Easter, construction manager for DuPont, thanked the team and congratulated all for remaining injury free.  The team then provided pizza for everyone on site, and each worker received a commemorative t-shirt.

KBR Building Group’s Washington office is responsible for this project, which is tracking LEED Gold Certification.  Designed to support up to 800 employees, Building 735 will consist of four levels of office space, including breakout and conference rooms, with a customer care center on the second floor. The building is slated to open in 2013.

"United in Safety Team" Ever-Creative in Keeping Safety Top-of-Mind
The "United In Safety" team at Chestnut Run, comprised of management from KBR Building Group, DuPont and key subcontractors, held "gate greetings" in two different areas of the Chestnut Run site on February 14 — one at the entrance to the Building 735 construction site, and the other at the entrance to the recently completed, adjacent Building 730. Construction workers were given a “Zero” candy bar, as a reminder to uphold zero injuries on the job, as well as a printed card featuring the United In Safety mission statement and the phone numbers of safety team members.

"The Zero candy bar initiative, timed for Valentine's Day, allowed our United in Safety team members to make personal contact with each worker on site while giving them a tangible reminder to work safely," said Andy Johnson, Safety Director, KBR Building Group. “Hopefully, some of those candy bars and mission statement cards showed up in kitchens that evening, stimulating a discussion with family members about what is going on at Chestnut Run. Family can have a positive impact on safety at the jobsite by holding their loved one accountable for working safely.”

Other Work at Chestnut Run
Our team recently completed phase-one construction at the site. Designated Building 730, this office building. which is similar to Building 735, reached substantial completion in early February. DuPont has already begun moving employees to the new office facility, and the full-service cafeteria on the first floor is open for business. In total, Buildings 730 and 735 will accommodate about 1,500 DuPont employees.
