KBR Building Group Completes Construction of Duke Medicine Cancer Center on Durham, N.C. Campus on Schedule — With Outstanding Safety Record
February 23, 2012

KBR Building Group’s team responsible for construction of the Duke Medicine Cancer Center in Durham, North Carolina, completed the state-of-the-art facility last month, right on schedule. Set to open to patients on February 27, the Cancer Center will provide Duke Medicine with 269,956 square feet of additional space for cancer care and research. A climate-controlled concourse connects the Cancer Center to Duke University Hospital and other facilities on campus.

“The KBR Building Group team has done a terrific job keeping the project on track with the highest level of quality despite a couple of major challenges in weather and equipment selection. We are especially proud of the fact that we maintained an outstanding safety record throughout the 22-month project. At peak, we had a workforce of about 500 construction workers on site. Duke University Health System has been pleased with our performance, and I commend everyone on our team for their contributions to the successful outcome,” said Todd Joyce, Operations Director, KBR Building Group.

KBR Building Group’s team for the Duke Cancer Center building program achieved a safety milestone of nearly 1.3 million work-hours without a lost-time incident, and the site has been awarded Carolina “Building Star” status, a prestigious designation, from the Occupational Safety and Health Division (OSH) of the North Carolina Department of Labor.
