KBR Building Group Celebrates On-Time Completion of Federal Building and Courthouse in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
October 3, 2011

The KBR Building Group’s project team recently celebrated the on-time completion of the new Federal Building and Courthouse for the United States General Services Administration (GSA) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Members of GSA’s Southeast Sunbelt Region office in Atlanta were on site September 20 for a final walkthrough and the official signing of the substantial completion documents. The design team and other project team members joined GSA representatives to commemorate and celebrate the occasion.

Ed Smith, Executive Vice President, Building Group, said, “Our project team did a masterful job of creating a collaborative and open environment that set the stage for a successful project. They paid attention to detail in communications and sharing of information amongst all team members, just as they did in the very technical and challenging construction aspects of the building, and I am proud of their results. The building is an architectural masterpiece that the tenants are excited to call home, just as the citizens of Tuscaloosa are proud to have it in their city.”

The traditional federal style building will be home to nearly 20 government tenants including U.S. District Court Judge Scott Coogler, U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Michael Stilson, U.S. Senator Richard Shelby, U.S. Representative Terri Sewell, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Marshal Service and the Social Security Administration. The project is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council and is expected to receive LEED Silver Certification.
