Employees Devote Personal Time and Energy to "Hands on Greenville" Community Service Day
May 3, 2011

The Building Group’s Greenville office recently provided an enthusiastic team of volunteers for the annual United Way’s Hands on Greenville (HOG) community service day held on a Saturday morning. This was our second year to participate in HOG Day as it’s known locally. Ken Olson, senior estimator, once again served as team captain.

“We were asked to spruce up the grounds of the Julie Valentine Center, Greenville’s Rape Crisis and Child Abuse Center,” said Olson. “We cut grass, pulled weeds, fertilized, sprayed, moved files, did carpentry work, and sorted donated toys. It was a great way to experience meaningful personal community service as individuals, while affording our company important recognition by way of the sponsorship provided by our parent, KBR. I encourage everyone to visit the website, www.julievalentinecenter.org."

The Julie Valentine Center’s director of development, Joyce Smart, sent a letter of gratitude, writing, “What a team! The volunteers from the BE&K Building Group did a fantastic job here last Saturday. What a treat to have the generous gift of time and willingness to pitch in for a cause. There is a quote that we use on some of our materials (from Mahatma Gandhi) that seems to fit your group: You must be the change you wish to see in the world. From the staff at the Center, and the child and adult survivors of assault and abuse who are our clients, we thank you so much.”
