Downtown Orlando Partnership's Golden Brick Award Goes to Building Group Office Build-Out
April 7, 2011

The Downtown Orlando Partnership (DOP) presented the Building Group with the prestigious Golden Brick Award at a special luncheon celebration today honoring projects completed in 2010. The Building Group was recognized for its office build-out project on Orange Avenue which happens to be home to our own Florida regional office. The project achieved LEED Gold certification last summer, a few months after our employees moved into the facility.

The Building Group's Ron Whalen, LEED AP, Vice President, talked about the significance of this project, saying, “What differentiates this project is that the Building Group was the Administrator of the LEED Certification process. Typically this is the architect’s role. As the project ‘owner’ we determined what credits we wanted to pursue based on the ability to achieve them within the constraints of the base building systems, the initial cost, the overall impact to the design, etc. Another point of interest is that we used this project as a learning tool for some of the employees in our office who had not yet had the opportunity to be involved in a LEED project.”

Through its awards program, the Downtown Orlando Partnership acknowledges projects which affect the Downtown Development District and contribute significantly to the quality of life, making Downtown Orlando a more exciting, interesting and desirable place to work, shop and live.
