Bell Helicopter Aircraft Assembly Facility Wins National Best of the Best Award from Engineering News-Record
April 8, 2016

Bell Helicopter’s new Aircraft Assembly Facility in Lafayette, Louisiana — completed by BE&K Building Group last summer — won “Best Manufacturing Project” in the highly competitive “Best of the Best” National Awards of Excellence program sponsored by Engineering News-Record (ENR). The award was presented during ENR’s Best of the Best Awards event at the Times Square Marriott Marquis in New York City on April 8, 2016. Winning projects were featured in the March 14 issue of ENR.

“I want to personally recognize our entire team for delivering another award-winning aerospace facility on a national level,” said Dave Ballew, project executive. “Among other things, our team was cited by the judges for exceeding expectations. One of our biggest challenges was working under some of the most difficult weather conditions in Southern Louisiana in recent history. I know all of our team members are extremely proud of this facility, just like the Owner.”

The Bell Helicopter Aircraft Assembly Facility first won top honors at ENR’s regional level, then moved on to beat out other manufacturing category winners from 10 regions across the country. To qualify, projects had to be completed between June 2014 and June 2015.

About the Facility — Bell Helicopter will use the facility to assemble and deliver its newest commercial helicopter, the eagerly-awaited Bell 505 Jet Ranger X. The new 82,300-square-foot hangar facility was built on a 14.5-acre site. Bell Helicopter will lease the facility from the Lafayette Regional Airport. Assembly operations are expected to start in 2016, following certification of the facility and the aircraft.
