Research Triangle Park Employees Help Raleigh-Area Kids with Back-to-School Supplies
September 1, 2015

BE&K Building Group’s Research Triangle Park (RTP) office supported two local “back to school” initiatives in August.

First, our employees donated a significant amount of food, along with backpacks, for the annual “BackPack Buddies” food drive administered by Raleigh’s Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Backpack Buddies provides children in need with healthy weekend meals during the school year. At the end of every week, the children receive backpacks containing six balanced meals and two healthy snacks. This year’s drive was a huge success — 10,000 pounds of food and $50,000 in cash donations were collected from area companies and individuals.

The second initiative was for “Backpack Heroes,” a program that provides school supplies to children whose families are unable to afford them. This program is run by the national non-profit, Youth Villages, which maintains an office next door to BE&K Building Group’s RTP office. In addition to school supplies, our RTP office donated two large boxes of gently-used binders.
