Teen Shadows Rivers EDGE Project Team for School Career Day
February 6, 2015

Earlier this week, teenager Ryan Hendricks of Belton, South Carolina, shadowed the Rivers EDGE project team in downtown Greenville as part of a career-day school assignment. Greenville Office Manager Mitzi Scarborough, a relative of Ryan's, made the arrangements with the Rivers EDGE project team. After a safety orientation, Ryan was given a tour of the jobsite.

“Ryan was so excited about having the chance to spend a whole day on a commercial construction site," said Mitzi. "He grew up helping my grandfather (his great grandfather) frame stick-built custom homes, but he never saw anything close to the size and complexity of our projects. He has a real passion for construction... I can picture him as a superintendent one day.”

At the end of the workday, Ryan confirmed Mitzi's prediction, saying, “This day will definitely play a part in my future. I am grateful to the project team and Mitzi for making it possible. I am not sure exactly what I want to be when I grow up — but I have a feeling it’s going to involve construction.”

Mitzi gave an update the following day. “Ryan soaked up so much information during his site visit. Last night he was showing his mom some aerial progress photos and was explaining to her about foundations and framing steel structures, and pointing out HVAC rooftop units. The team did an awesome job educating Ryan. It was an invaluable experience for him — one that he'll never forget."
