KBR Building Group Wins Multiple Recognition Awards for Honda Aircraft Customer Service Facility
November 21, 2014

KBR Building Group is the proud recipient of two prestigious awards for the construction of Honda Aircraft Company's 90,000-square-foot Customer Service Facility in Greensboro, North Carolina. First, we won Best Manufacturing Project in Engineering News-Record's Best of 2014 Regional Awards program. This award was presented on November 11 at a luncheon hosted by ENR Southeast in Orlando. Two weeks later, our team was presented with the highest possible award from ABC of the Carolinas at the organization's 2014 Excellence in Construction Awards event in Charlotte. Our project was honored with ABC's coveted Eagle Award in the category, Industrial $25-$50 million.

About the Project — Repeat client American Honda Motor Company selected KBR Building Group, teamed with Carolinas-based minority contractor The Daniele Company, to construct a new 90,000-square-foot Customer Service Facility at Honda Aircraft Company’s world headquarters located at the Piedmont Triad International Airport.

Designed with many sustainable features, the Customer Service Facility includes dedicated office and work space for Honda Aircraft’s customer service organization; parts storage space; and a hangar to provide aircraft maintenance as well as office and comfort space for customers waiting on their planes. The facility provides a corporate base for the customer service organization, which manages warranty administration; service programs sales and administration; 24/7 technical support center; technical publications; training; and complements the HondaJet dealer network by providing heavy maintenance and major repair and overhaul work. The building houses back shops for composite and sheet metal structures, avionics and interiors, and a customer waiting area with pilot’s lounge, individual work rooms with conference space, and a flight planning room near the aircraft ramp side entrance.

The exterior consists of architectural and industrial insulated metal panels, aluminum sunshades, and glass curtain wall systems to match the adjacent production facility — an award-winning facility constructed by KBR three years ago. Sitework included a main entrance boulevard with a guard house; customer drop-off and parking; employee parking; a 740’ x 300’ concrete apron area that includes aircraft parking areas, a de-fueling area, and an engine run-up area with a blast fence; and a concrete loading dock area. The team achieved 25 percent minority participation while completing the project on schedule and within budget.
