Project Teams Join Together to Serve Local Community in Silver Spring, Md.
August 25, 2014

KBR Building Group project teams take pride in getting involved in the communities in which they work. Earlier this year, Washington, D.C. employees at two active construction sites in Silver Spring, Maryland, joined forces to make a difference in that city. Volunteers from The Premier at Georgia Avenue, a 14-story residential tower, and The Heritage at Georgia Avenue, a 9-story apartment complex, served together for six consecutive months at Shepherd’s Table — a local ministry that provides breakfast, dinner, and other services to those in need.

Lynne Ethridge, project admin for The Heritage, helped coordinate this community service effort which kicked off near the end of last year. “We arranged to be at Shepherd’s Table on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Shepherd’s table is located almost exactly halfway between The Premier and The Heritage, convenient to us both. The Heritage team supplied about half of the KBR manpower each session. It was nice to work with each other outside of our assigned projects.”

KBR Building Group volunteers set tables, made sandwiches, washed dishes, plated desserts, filled water pitchers — whatever was needed by the staff at the time.

“The work was easy, and it is rewarding to think we played a small part in helping make the community a better place. All of their volunteers keep the same schedule, so we got to know the people we were working with. It was fun, and the time commitment every month was minimal,” said Ethridge

The Premier and The Heritage projects are both complete now and pending LEED certification. The Premier is owned by Guardian Realty, while The Heritage at Georgia Avenue was developed by a joint venture sponsored by Priderock Capital Partners, LLC.
