KBR Building Group Teaches Students at Charlotte’s Myers Park High School about Construction through ACE Mentoring Program
March 10, 2014

KBR Building Group has recently become actively involved with the Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE) Mentor program at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Founded in 1994, the ACE Mentor Program of America, Inc. not only engages sponsors and volunteer mentors to expose students to real-world opportunities, it financially supports each student's continued success through scholarships and grants.

Myers Park High School's ACE group is fortunate to have an active construction site right on the school grounds. KBR Building Group has been working continuously on the Myers High School campus since April 2013 when we began construction on a phased, multi-faceted renovation/expansion. The first component was the 1,500-seat expansion of the football stadium along with new concessions and restroom facilities. Replacement of the windows at the cafeteria, and utility relocations associated with the future gymnasium addition was also completed during the summer of 2013. Construction of a new gymnasium is currently underway and will complete in August. We will be doing some infrastructure improvements and utility relocations over the summer to prepare for the next project(s) at Myers Park. KBR is working with the school system and the project architect to develop a master plan and schedule for the campus facilities.

“We are proud to be ambassadors for the ACE Program which is intended to inspire high school students to pursue careers in design and construction,” said Danny Mullis, project executive, KBR Building Group.

ACE students recently took a walk across the school's campus to KBR Building Group's jobsite trailer. Brian Cishek, our project manager, and Benny Baker, our superintendent, enthusiastically provided the students with a safety orientation, and a general overview of the plans and specifications. They also discussed the project schedule. Benny and Brian then led a brief tour of the foundations for the facility. The group plans to visit the site periodically throughout the year.

Built in 1951, Myers Park High School is operated by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), one of the country’s largest school systems and a long-time client of our company.
