KBR Building Group Team Celebrates Topping Out of The Premier, High-Rise Residential Tower in Silver Spring, Maryland
August 14, 2013

KBR Building Group’s project team for The Premier at Georgia Avenue (The Premier) in Silver Spring, Maryland, recently participated in a traditional topping-out ceremony to celebrate reaching the highest point of construction. Attendees included executives and employees from the project’s Owner/Developer, Guardian Realty; the building’s management company, Kettler; representatives from WDG Architects; and more than 150 trade workers.

As part of the formal ceremony, our team followed the Washington office's tradition of raising an American flag to the top of the structure along with the ceremonial fir tree. A catered lunch followed the ceremony during which Butch Barton and Barry Cross, KBR Building Group's superintendents assigned to The Premier, made a few remarks. They thanked everyone who has participated in the building's construction to date and gave special praise to the construction crews for their diligence in working safely.

Designed for LEED certification, The Premier is a 14-story, 152,000-square-foot residential tower comprising 160 units with high-end features. The tower is sited between two commercial office buildings at 8711 Georgia Avenue. The Premier features six levels of parking including two below grade. Amenities include bike storage; rooftop terrace, clubroom; and ground-floor retail. About half of the units will offer a balcony in addition to an interior fifth-floor courtyard designed to provide dual sunlight exposure for central units.
